Bead Soup Blog Party: Welcome to the Arctic Circle!

What do sensible middle-aged women around the world do?
Swap beads!

The great 7th Bead Soup Blog Party celebrates the 3rd reveal today. The background and participants of this Party can be found here:
http://lorianderson-beadsoupblogparty.blogspot.fi/2013/04/welcome-to-3rd-reveal-of-7th-bead-soup.html

This big, inspiring bead soup was sent from England by Marjolein Trewavas.

Where is my spoon? What do I remember of England?

1. Cozy old England:

Cushions on a sofa, an electric fireplace, roses on the walls, cats all around - and a nice cup of tea! That was England as I remember it from the 70´s.

Marjolein had made her sweet cushion pendant just the right size to fit in her large earring. The pendant and the kimono fabric determined the colors of this necklace. I continued feminine needlework by making peyote beads and endcaps. Marjolein´s clasp had a bath in liver of sulfur.

2. Earrings just as cozy:
These lush fibre beads are made by Marjolein. I added some kimono fabric, brass, stone beads and these very innovative headpins I made of cotton and resin. (No idea, if they will work in the long run!)

3. An elderly lady, who used to listen Sex Pistols:

I used to have a boyfriend, whose brother had a hair style just like these orange mother-of-pearl spikes. He listened to Sex Pistols, and nobody in the house could avoid listening, too.

My favorite in Marjolein´s soup was this keyhole-thing. Tiger-striped lampwork beads, small wooden beads and a cowrie shell are from her, too. I added a ceramic ring and bead made by me, some brass, hemp and resin-covered stamp. (Queen Elisabeth was so beautiful a couple of years ago, wasn´t she?)

4. Freezing beach

It is just as freezing on English beaches as on Finnish beaches. But the English people pretend better that it is wonderful there!

The Beach necklace started with cowrie shells from Marjolein. I made this pendant of beach finds (that I found from a flee market) and resin. The line around the pendant explains word "beach suit" in 1950. Cotton cord and small ceramic beads are from Marjolein, large ones are made by me.

It was a great pleasure to bead with you in this Party!

Wow Susannah..... What you did with my soup is just amazing. You have such an earthy natural talent. The first Necklace and the dinky earrings, the Queen peeking through, I cannot choose wich one I like the best, they are all "geweldig" as we say in Dutch! It is just amazing what you can do with upcycled bits and pieces.

I know your amazing creativity, but you still surprise me by your super talent. And your fantastic humour, it´s less or more hidden in all what you make or say. :D

These pieces all are so huge!! The soup can´t be better for you!

Amazing! You have such a talent in combining mixed media in a piece of wearable art! Not all of the pieces are my style, but I like all of them anyway. The favourites though are the first and last one.

I never listened to the Sex Pistols or knew anyone who did, but I LOVE your necklace inspired by them. I too am reading my bead soup with my cats cosy around me, all I need is a cup of tea.

I am NOT middle-aged! *stomps feet* Nor sensible...

Gorgeous creations. The story you tell with them is intriguing and full of a delightful sense of humour. Almost British!!!I love all of your pieces. You are very talented!!!

Ohhhh wow, these are some very unique, very organic beads you received. Love the peyote beads you created, and every single piece of jewelry you made for the BSBP. The Freezing Beach one would be my fave though. :)

All of your pieces tell a story and they make great use of the soup you were sent. I love them all.

My goodness, what a truly innovative and original collection of creations. I'm so very impressed. And I have to laugh at your statement about English beaches. My English husband moved to the US midwest from the south English coast. He claims it was warm there, just like here. Oddly enough, my experience with English beaches is the same as yours. Freezing!

Your pieces are all so unique. Each of the necklaces definitely makes a statement. One that I am very happy to listen to.

adlinah kirjoitti...

Very original, creative pieces! It was great that you used your memories of England to guide the design on each piece and how each one had a story behind it. I have to say that the last beach-themed necklace is my favourite - I find white or beige the hardest colours to work with but you did an amazing job. The resin focal and the handmade beads really make a statement. Fabulous job on your bead soup!

Your work is truly inspirational, I'm mad for the key hole necklace and I love the textures and layering going on in frozen beach. It's all stunning.

I love your bead soup andwhat you created from it! The first necklace is so so beautiful, the Sex pistols necklace is so very original (and the name made me laugh too :))

So far you're my favorite: your pieces are a bit quirky, different, beautiful and all these mixed media working together so well. Amazing job.

I adore your UNIQUE and gorgeous creations. My mum was an English warbride who stowed away with her infant son to America. So the queen peeking through the keyhole is especially dear to me.

BUT...your first necklace and earrings actually took my breath away, I love the textures and smart colors you used to make a cohesive necklace and adorable earrings. They will be on my faves list which I will post later today.

Wow - what lovely pieces you have created. I can totally relate to the descriptions assigned to each piece. I'm from the UK, and although I did not listen to the Sex Pistols, I knew of them. We do still have lovely freezing cold beaches too, good old British weather for you. Loving that spiky necklace- just brilliant!

bead addict kirjoitti...

What a great way to present your designs as memories of England. I did smile when it came to 'Freezing beach' - in England there's pretty much no other kind....;-)
Great designs, I especially like the aforementioned necklace and could see it being worn on a slightly more sunny and tropical beach somewhere...!

Christine Hansen kirjoitti...

Oh, everything you made is just phenomenal! The colors and textures in that gorgeous soup of yours are so rich and lush, and sooooo inspirational! Love that first necklace - especially the way you echoed the texture of the cording with your peyote beads and end caps. The earrings are so much fun, and I love, love, LOVE the Sex Pistols necklace - I'm such a geek for old hardware stuff, and the way you framed the stamp with the keyhole was just brilliant! And finally - the freezing beach piece is absolutely wonderful - the focal is amazing - I love the way you incorporated text around the outside of the ring, and I'm lusting after the awesome texture on those ceramic beads (those are yours, right?). Fantastic work with a fantastic soup!
